AVEE vs Proton VPN
Both are aimed at people on restrictive networks and both run an obfuscated transport. Proton VPN has a genuine free tier, published audits, a Swiss base and a long privacy track record. AVEE is much cheaper ($1–3/month vs $9.99), runs its DPI-resistant transport by default rather than as a manual "Stealth" choice, and needs no email. Proton covers more platforms (including iOS); AVEE does not. This page lays out the trade-offs.

Price and model
Proton VPN Plus is $9.99/month with no commitment (cheaper on 1–2 year plans), plus a free tier with unlimited data but a small number of locations and lower priority speed. AVEE is $1/month for 100 GB, $2 for 300 GB, $3 for unlimited — a different model: you can pay for roughly the data you use instead of a flat unmetered fee. If you need only a few GB a month, AVEE is a fraction of the cost. If you want a $0 option indefinitely and can live with limited locations, Proton's free tier is genuinely useful and AVEE has nothing equivalent — its trial is one-time.
Getting past censorship
Both use obfuscation. The difference is default vs opt-in. Proton's Stealth protocol disguises traffic as normal HTTPS, but you have to select it (and, on some networks, enable Alternative Routing). AVEE's VLESS + Reality transport is the only mode — there is no plain WireGuard to fall back to — so there is nothing to configure and Reality additionally resists active probing. On networks that fingerprint protocols (see how ISPs block VPNs), "on by default" removes a step where people get stuck. Note that Proton VPN has been reported blocked in Pakistan since around December 2025, along with most unregistered services.
Privacy and trust
This is Proton's strong suit. Open-source apps, independent audits, Swiss jurisdiction, and years of public scrutiny. AVEE has not published an independent audit; it states a no-browsing-logs position in its privacy policy and uses a no-email account model, but it is a small, newer operation and you are taking more on trust. If a published audit and an established privacy brand are decisive for you, Proton is the safer pick.
Who each is best for
- Choose AVEE if: you are on Android or Windows, want the lowest possible price or a pay-for-data plan, want an obfuscated transport with zero configuration, and want to test compatibility on your own network first without giving an email.
- Choose Proton VPN if: you need iOS/macOS/Linux, want a permanent free tier, want a published audit and an established privacy reputation, or want one app across every device.
They are not mutually exclusive — the AVEE trial costs nothing to try alongside Proton's free tier.
Network conditions vary by carrier and location. Test AVEE on your own connection before you pay.
FAQ
- Is AVEE cheaper than Proton VPN?
- Yes. AVEE starts at $1/month (100 GB) and $3/month for unlimited; Proton VPN Plus is $9.99/month with no commitment. Proton also has a free unlimited-data tier, which AVEE does not match — AVEE's free option is a one-time ~1 GB trial.
- Does AVEE have an audit like Proton?
- No. Proton publishes independent audits and open-source apps. AVEE has not published an audit. If that is a dealbreaker, Proton is the better choice.
- Which is better for a censored network?
- Both can work. AVEE runs a camouflaged transport (VLESS/Reality) by default with no toggle; Proton's Stealth protocol does a similar job but you select it manually. Test whichever on your own connection.
- Does AVEE work on iPhone?
- No. AVEE is Android and Windows only. Proton VPN has an iOS app.
